WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Derrick Van Orden (WI-03) and Congressman Don Davis (D-NC) introduced the Ag Vets Act, a bipartisan bill aimed at supporting veterans in entering the farming and ranching industries.

"Food security is national security," emphasized Congressman Van Orden, highlighting the importance of veterans in fulfilling crucial roles in agriculture. He stated, "Given the previous nature of their service, our veterans are exceptionally equipped to handle that responsibility."

Congressman Davis echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the significance of providing training for veterans to pursue successful careers in agriculture. "With an agriculture workforce shortage, veterans possess valuable skills that can be transferred to this field," he noted.

The Ag Vets Act will focus on preparing veterans for careers in agriculture by providing training and education in farm and ranch business operations, management practices, and other necessary skills. The bill aims to address the workforce shortage in agriculture by leveraging the talents of military veterans.

The proposed legislation outlines specific requirements for grant recipients to offer training, classroom education, curriculum development, workshops, and field experiences tailored to veteran farmers and ranchers. By supporting veterans in acquiring the skills needed for the agricultural industry, the bill aims to ensure a sustainable supply of food and clothing for the American people and beyond.

The Ag Vets Act represents a significant step towards creating opportunities for veterans in the agriculture sector and addressing the challenges faced by both veterans transitioning to civilian life and the agricultural industry in need of skilled workers.
