Those Wisconsinites who fear that they may have broken their New Year’s resolution to get in shape may have some hope as cities and towns across the state will be joining the second annual Be Active Wisconsin Community Fitness Challenge.

Eau Claire ABC affiliate WQOW reported that the city will be among the 45 Wisconsin communities to participate in the event, which will take place next month.

Eau Claire Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department officials touted the event as a way for people to engage healthy living.

"We want to encourage especially in the winter, where our community can come together and be proud and be fit," Eau Claire Parks, Recreation and Forestry supervisor Julie Booth told WQOW.

She encouraged area businesses and agencies to their own personal challenges within the overall city challenge, adding that participants can use the city's Winter Gear Share equipment at Pinehurst Park for free, the station additionally reported.

The registration window for the challenge is currently open.

“This is a great opportunity to stay active this winter and contribute to making Eau Claire the 'fittest community' in Wisconsin!” the department wrote on its Facebook page.

Up for grabs is a traveling trophy.
